What types of products do you offer?

We offer certified home compostable bags. Our products are designed to make pick up both affordable and sustainable.

How many rolls will I need?

60 bags / 3 rolls will last one fluffy pal for one month. Each roll has 20 bags which means you won't need to replace as often.

What can I use your thegoodpaw bags for?

Our products aren't restricted to only petwaste pick up. We have used these bags for lining our council compostable caddy and used them to store organic waste on camping and hiking adventures. We've even used them as water bowls too!

How does thegoodpaw subscription work?

Easy. Select the quantity you want at the frequency you want it as and we'll do the rest. Your bags will arrive at your doorstep on time every time. You won't need to worry about running out again. 

What size are thegoodpaw bags?

thegoodpaw offers two types of home compostable bags: Handled bags (17cm wide x 33cm tall) and non-handled bags (23cm wide x 33cm tall).

How thick are thegoodpaw bags?

All bags are 20 microns thick. This gives the bags more reliability and a premium feel. The thickness creates a barrier between your pet's waste and your hands to reduce the feeling of "poop" in your hands, compared to your traditional thin plastic bags.  

Are thegoodpaw bags really home compostable?

Yes! Our bags are all certified to the standards recognised by New Zealand, allowing you to dispose of them in an environmentally responsible way. All our bags hold the AS 5810, registration ABAP 20016, the Seedling certification under EN13432 for general compostability, registration number 7P0477 and TUV Home Compost certification S0329.

How should I store my bags to maintain their quality?

To maintain your bags at their best, keep your bags in a cool and dry place. Our bags have a shelf life of up to 12 months.

What is the science behind the break down of thegoodpaw bags?

Composting is essentially "controlled farming" of microorganisms. While it looks like a pile of waste, it is actually a high-speed biological ecosystem powered by bacteria and fungi. 

To keep these microorganisms working efficiently, four primary scientific conditions must be balanced: Nutrients, Oxygen, Moisture, and Temperature. Microbes need two things to survive: Carbon (for energy) and Nitrogen (for building proteins and reproducing). The ideal ratio is approximately 30:1 (30 parts Carbon to 1 part Nitrogen).

Dog and cat waste are very high in nitrogen, and contain pathogens and parasites. To compost it effectively without it becoming a stinky, slimy mess, you need to increase the add in carbon rich material such as sawdust, straw, or shredded paper to balance the ratio back to 30:1. Be mindful to compost it separately to your edible plants in the garden.

How do I set up a home compostable system?

The two main methods for a home setup is to use a twin barrel compost to keep things separate or if you're more handy then you can construct an in ground home compost or you can purchase Bokashi Pet Starter kits from your local garden or hardware store.
